How to make the House Cozy for Fall

Change up the Throw Pillows

Change the throw pillow covers for the season.  Select warmer tones and textures such as sherpa, faux fur, or velvet for extra coziness.  Just this simple change will add the perfect fall touch to any room in the house.  My favorites are living room, bedroom and outside furniture.

Layer with cozy fall colored throw blankets

Add a few fall color or neutral throw blankets on your couch and in baskets – this is inviting for family members and guests to cozy up on the couch.  Adding a throw blanket to hang over the end of the bed is also a nice cozy touch.

Add Candles for scent and Ambiance

Add scented candles – they completely make the house smell great and feel and look cozy.  The Bath and Body plugins and paraffin warmers are also great in adding amazing scents to the home.  Scent is a huge trigger for memories and adds to creating a relaxing ambience.  The smell of pumpkin spice, apple cider, and fall spice will do wonders making your house feel cozy.

Adding warm soft lighting is a quick way to make a home feel cozy.  Turn off the direct overhead lights and turn on tableside lamps.  This will create a delicate glow effect in your home to create a more relaxing, inviting space. The “soft white” bulbs do the trick establishing the perfect ambience.

Make Apple Cider, Hot Coco or a Fresh Pot of Coffee

These simple homemade scents will make the house smell amazing and put the entire family in the fall spirit.  There is nothing more comforting on a cool fall evening than enjoying a good cup of coffee, cider, or coco.

Place Pumpkins and Fall Decorations Around Your Home

Decorate with your favorite fall decorations inside and out.  Pumpkins add the perfect style of fall natural.  You can decorate outside by placing pumpkins near the doorway with fall flower plants.  I like to add decoration to the entryway table, side tables, and the mantel of the fireplace.

Hang a fall Wreath

Hanging a Wreath on the outside of the front door is a nice inviting way to decorate for fall.  I like to make my own wreaths.  They are easy to do and you can customize to your own style and color scheme.  Also – saving a lot of money doing so.  It is a fun project – I go to Michaels or Hobby Lobby to pick up supplies use a glue gun and start creating an amazing wreath.  Some ideas listed below.

Change your Color Scheme by Adding Fall Colors

Adding a few decorations, throw pillows and throw blankets are where I start in selecting the new fall color scheme.  All of the sudden the living room and bedrooms feel transformed.  It does not take much to transform each room.  Subtle changes do the trick.  Remember that the candles and plugins adding scent to the home will add to the transformation of a cozy fall home ready for the holidays.

Bring the Outdoors inside – Decorate with Fall Colors

Add fall flowers in a vase to the inside of the house.  Decorate with pumpkins or gourds, pinecones, acorns, branches and candles for a beautiful dining centerpiece.  This is an easy inexpensive way to add fall to the home.  Adding branches, wildflowers and willows in a vase to any area of the family living space adds just the perfect fall touch.

Tips to make your home cozy on a budget

Remember you can do this fall transformation on a budget.  A few throw pillows, throw blankets, pumpkins, pinecones, and branches you can transform any space.  Believe it or not subtle décor goes along way.  I have found many deals at the Dollar Store, Home Goods, TJ Max, Ross, CVS and Walgreens.  Amazon also has some amazing throw pillows and throw blankets at a very affordable price.  My last purchase was from Amazon and I love the cozy textures and excellent quality.
